The PHS Philadelphia Flower Show is the largest annual flower show in the world attracting thousands of visitors from all over the world. The flower show this year was held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia from March 2-10. This year my student De’Asia and I decided to enter into the internationally competitive pressed plant class in two categories. De’Asia entered into the ‘Cure What Ails You’ medicinal plant class and I entered into the ‘Flower Child’ class. De’Asia took the initiative to research and acquire medicinal plants to utilize in her pressed plant entry. Neither of us walked away empty handed, De’Asia won Honorable Mention for her entry and I won Second Place for my entry. What impresses me most is that De’Asia (unbeknownst to the judges) competed in an adult competitive class instead of one of the competitive classes reserved for high school students.
